You already did the first part—you contacted us because something about being a haunt actor sounded like FUN.
Maybe you love Halloween. Maybe you’ve always wondered what it would be like to be on the OTHER side of the scare. Or maybe you just think you’d be really good at making someone scream.
Whatever brought you here, you might be surprised at just how much fun being part of the ASYLUM & HOTEL FEAR cast can be. But the question is, “Why be a Haunt Volunteer?”
THERE’S NOTHING QUITE LIKE THE RUSH OF A GREAT SCARE!
Ask a haunt actor about the first time they REALLY scared someone.
They’ll probably smile.
There’s a reason for that.
When you’re hiding in the darkness waiting for the perfect moment, your body is getting ready for action. Your heart rate goes up. Your senses sharpen. Adrenaline kicks in.
Then you make your move…
You SCREAM! They JUMP!
Their friends scream. Maybe somebody runs (even though we told them NOT to!) Some may even wet themselves or, the greatest compliment, they soil themselves!
And YOU were the one who made it happen.
Your brain’s reward system gets involved too, which is one reason pulling off a great scare can feel so satisfying. It’s a strange combination of performing, timing, anticipation, adrenaline and getting an immediate reaction from your “audience.”
And once you get a REALLY GOOD scare…
You want another one. And another. And another.
YOU BECOME PART OF A CAST
One of the best parts of haunting isn’t actually the customers.
It’s the people haunting beside you.
All Haunt actors tend to have something in common: they LOVE Halloween! We enjoy entertaining people and – let’s admit it – we probably enjoy scaring people a little more than the average person!
Spend enough nights together and something happens.
The person working the scene next to you isn’t just another actor anymore. They’re your teammates.
You trade stories about your best scares. You laugh about the ones that completely failed. You help each other improve characters. You celebrate when somebody absolutely NAILS a scare.
That’s why you’ll find friendships in our cast that have lasted for years.
You’re joining a group of people who understand why spending October lurking around a dark hallway waiting to scare complete strangers sounds like a fantastic way to spend an evening.
THERE’S A REAL SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
Haunt acting is more than jumping out and yelling “BOO!”
(which is something we NEVER say!)
You learn how to read people. You learn timing. You develop a character.
You discover how a voice, movement, expression or even standing perfectly still can sometimes be scarier than screaming.
And every group that comes through is different.
Eventually you’ll hear something every haunt actor loves:
“That person scared the CRAP out of me!”
And they’re talking about YOU.
There’s something incredibly satisfying about knowing that you helped create a Halloween memory they’ll be talking about on the ride home.
AND YES… THERE ARE PERKS!
We’re an all-volunteer cast, but we believe the people who give us their time deserve to know they’re appreciated.
During the season, we feed our cast before the show because nobody should have to terrorize Las Vegas on an empty stomach!
And when the night is over, there’s a quick snack waiting for you afterward.
We have people constantly looping the haunt making sure you still have water, lozenges, checking on you!
Throughout the season we recognize our actors and celebrate great performances.
At the end of the season, we also give away cast swag based on participation. The more you’re involved, the more opportunities you’ll have to earn some pretty cool ASYLUM & HOTEL FEAR gear.
But it doesn’t necessarily end on Halloween.
We hold cast parties and get-togethers, and throughout the off-season there are opportunities for special events and other activities.
We want this to feel like a CAST, not just a collection of people who show up in October.
YOU DON’T NEED EXPERIENCE
Never acted before? GOOD. WE CAN TRAIN YOU.
Have haunt or acting experience? GOOD. WE CAN RETRAIN YOU!
But seriously, Haunt acting is its own strange art form, and we’ll help you learn it.
Some people are naturally loud and aggressive. Others are quiet and creepy. Some are funny. Some can create a character that makes people uncomfortable just by staring at them.
There’s no single “haunt actor personality.”
Sometimes the person who walks into auditions saying, “I don’t know if I can do this…” turns into one of the people we can’t get out of the building at the end of the night!
YOU GET TO BE SOMEONE ELSE FOR A WHILE
For a few hours, the normal world disappears.
You put on the costume. The makeup goes on. The lights go down. The music and sound effects start. The doors open. And suddenly you’re not standing inside a haunted attraction at Meadows Mall anymore.
You’re a doctor inside ASYLUM. A twisted hotel employee inside HOTEL FEAR. A patient. A victim. Or something we haven’t even thought of yet.
For those few hours… Halloween becomes your world.
And YOU get to be part of creating it.

Come for the adrenaline. Come because you love Halloween.
Come because you’ve always wanted to scare people. Come to perform.
Come to challenge yourself. Come for the friendships.
Come for the stories you’ll be telling in November.
Come because being NORMAL is highly overrated.
But most importantly… COME HAVE FUN WITH US.

Auditions are held in front of ASYLUM & HOTEL FEAR at Meadows Mall.
Actors must be 17 or older.
You don’t have to commit to every night of the season. Whether you’d like to volunteer for a few nights or become one of those people who practically lives here during October, we’d love to meet you.
